VovinとUngerによる稲の*zinaCiを報告し、日琉祖語*jinaCと複合境界後のglide strengtheningを提案する。 語頭sの消失とsの添加に加わる第三の分析である。Unger 1977は稲に*zinaCiを置き、語頭では*zが消失し、 複合内部では西部上代日本語の/s/として保たれたと分析したという。Blench 2005のTable 2.9も Vovin 1998 p.368に帰属する*(z)ina-Ci／*(h)ina-Ciを転載する。
